Maidstone Packing Services

 Maidstone Packing Services

Thorough professional packing not only safeguards your treasured possessions but also relieves so much stress from moving day. Things go much more smoothly when all your smaller items are packed into regular sized, high quality twin walled cartons.

We're very proud of our packing services. Please ask about options - Full Packing, Fragile Packing or just packing of specific items. Our conscientious team will make light work of your packing with skill and experience.

If you want to pack yourself we'll deliver our quality packing materials - this is all part of the service if you're in Maidstone.

Maidstone Furniture Dismantling & Reassembly

Maidstone Furniture dismantling & reassembly

Large furniture needs to be dismantled if it’s too big to go down the stairs or through doorways. If you feel competent to do this yourself we’re happy with that, but if not, we’ll quote to do this for you.

Most commonly wardrobes, beds, cots and desks require dismantling. Often we remove legs from dining tables and feet from sofas without charge. We can give you a price per item included in your formal removals quotation.

As with all our services we’re familiar with dismantling & reassembling furniture and our experience goes back to 2002. We only dismantle if we think it’s the best option and over the years we’ve learned how to overcome small problems which sometimes arise.

Occasionally customers want to avoid dismantling, worried that the furniture will not be reassembled properly. We’ve been building flatpack furniture in Maidstone for 20 years - so if it needs doing, don’t worry, we’ll do it professionally!

export wrapping

Maidstone Furniture (Export) wrapping

Furniture can be protected with a specially designed bubble wrap. This has a tough outer layer, a small bubble and also a tissue inner layer for delicate surfaces. Proprietary names for this wrapping material include “bubble blanket”, “furniguard” and “furnisoft”.

Removal companies call this “export wrapping” because it’s primarily used as an extra protection for furniture which is being shipped internationally and will be multi-handled, in different countries, between collection and delivery.

We also offer this service to Maidstone removal customers who are moving their furniture into self-store. We can wrap on collection and unwrap on delivery when you come out of self store. Furniture can be stacked up in a self store unit with protection from bumps and scrapes.

We don’t do this for direct, local removals as we protect furniture on our lorry with transit blankets whilst on board.
Maidstone

Storage for our Maidstone Removal customers

We offer long term and short term secure storage to meet your requirements and ensure the safety of your possessions. We've been storing for removals customers from Maidstone since 2002. Please get in touch if you have any questions about storing your belongings.

We use traditional removals warehouse containers to store your belongings. They are an industry standard 5' by 7' by 7.5' tall - this is equivalent to a 35 square foot room in a self store centre. We think we're better value than self store, especially over the medium and long term. You can rent these for £16.80/week all inclusive. This includes indemnity insurance for goods in storage.

My house move was made swift and easy due to Philip Marks. I would definitely recommend to anyone to use them. My new house had a very narrow staircase and I had a large sofa which didn’t fit up the stairs and rather than that being that the removals men took the sofa apart, got it up the stairs and put it back together. Great service and can’t fault them at all.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Philip Marks removals, they made moving day as stress free as possible. Fantastic communication, from the lady on the end of the phone with advise and reassurance, from the phone call on the day saying they had to take a detour so would be 10mins later than planned. Everyone we dealt with was amazing. The guys moving us on the day worked so hard, were careful and efficient and very professional. Thank you all for making our moving day so smooth.

Excellent service, very friendly and helpful Team. Very reasonal charges and all our stuffs were shifted safe. Thanks to the whole team.

We recently moved from Kent to Lincolnshire. Philip Marks were excellent from the start. Philip came out and quoted us and gave us loads of advice and tips, explaining the whole process thoroughly. Sally kept in regular contact and was very helpful at all times. The removal itself was very well organised. The men were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We were very impressed with them all and would like to thank them very much for helping make our move so stress free. We would highly recommend them. You will definitely not be disappointed with their service.

We are Baron Medical, a company supplying Hospital Beds to Care Homes, and had a particular delicate job of having to carry beds up an external fire escape, and manoeuvre around narrow corridors and into residents rooms. This was skilfully done by the team without damaging the walls or doors......which had just been painted! Excellent job and will be using again. Also nice clean lorry and well turned out chaps, maintaining the image we always like to portray.

Excellent removals firm. The office staff were kind, compassionate and helpful even when I had to change my pencilled in date due to chain difficulties. Their communication was not just efficient, but showed humanity in their approach. This really eased my stress. Carl and Barry were very efficient and made my move from South London into Medway really easy. Even though it was a somewhat fiddly job- from a storage facility- they worked hard and uncomplainingly. Nothing was too much trouble. They were also friendly and made the day much easier due to their attitude. The price too was extremely competitive against other quotes I received. I was very pleased and would recommend this form to anyone moving.

We recently used Philips Marks removals for our house move, they turned up on time, were professional, polite and were very helpful. We had a lot of stuff to move as there is 7 of us in our household (2 adults, 5 children) and considering the amount of stuff that had to be moved, they managed to get it done in good time. The service was faultless from the get go and there’s not one bad thing to say. Me & my partner were very happy with the service and would highly recommend.

There aren’t enough words to describe how fantastic this company has been. From beginning to end. When Phil came to quote us, he was punctual. We were initially unsure in the moving date, however they accommodated us in all aspects. We had 3 guys move us who turned up on time, I myself was not completely finished packing but they were extremely helpful with helping me get things finished. They worked hard, didn’t complain, packed everything in efficient time as well as unpacking. I don’t have a bad word to say about any of them. All very kind and polite. If ever I needed removals again in the future, I would definitely go to these guys. If you’re looking for hard working people to do your move, this is the company to go for. Thank you all so much for everything. Although I was very stressed, you definitely eased that by helping us to move. Highly recommend Phillip marks removals. Thank you all again.

Philip Marks offer a local family firm removal experience which was important to me as I hadn’t moved for 37 years. I had read the very helpful moving information on their website prior to Philip’s quotation visit. The quotation was very reasonable and Philip clearly set out what would happen on moving day. Moving day went to plan despite torrential rain during the moving out. The Team of three worked steadily and efficiently and their sense of humour certainly alleviated the stress of moving day. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The only slight hitch was that the wardrobe would not fit up the stairs despite great efforts on everyone ‘s part. To be fair Philip had predicted this possibility which just demonstrates his level of experience having not actually seen the new house but being aware of its age. With Philip Marks the removals were one thing I didn’t have to worry about. Highly recommended.

I have used Philip Marks a few times when my mother has moved between care homes with very little to move. This time I was moving my house. Once again I have been very pleased with the way things went. From the initial appointment with Philip , the delivery of cardboard boxes and the actual day of moving I have been impressed with the professional way this company performs. It was not easy for the four men who carried out the move. I had a lot of ‘stuff’ in the garage, lots of plants in pots as well as all the normal things one has. They carried out their work in a jovial manner, taking the stress out of what is a very stressful day. Highly recommended company.

I wanted a stress free move and a recently moved neighbour recommended Philip Marks to me. From the initial quote to the personal attention to detail I was really impressed. I would absolutely recommend this terrific removal company to you.

We just want to say a huge thank you to Phillip, his son and the team for their efficient friendly service to make what could have been a stressful move as unstressful as possible. It started when Phillip arrived to pack up all our possessions. He packed everything with care and consideration, discussing what needed to go from each room and labelling in detail. The following day the team arrived and in a blink of an eye the boxes had gone. Care was taken with all the larger pieces, wrapping the seatee and armchair to protect it. Unloading was just as efficient, with furniture and boxes put in the right rooms and moving around if we changed our mind. I would highly recommend Phillip Marks Removals to anyone wanting to move - I would definitely use them again. They are professional, friendly and super efficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do removals cost in Maidstone?

We’ve recently quoted on removals work ranging between £150 and £5000! Many people contact us asking for a quick idea of price - very often they say something like “it’s just an average move with nothing out of the ordinary”. During more than 20 years in business we’ve concluded that everyone thinks that they’re ordinary but no one is.

We’re happy to visit you in Maidstone  to see what’s important to you and give a firm quote based on that. The visit doesn’t usually take more than half an hour and there’s no obligation to you. Then you can allocate funds and plan your finances well in advance.

We don’t like to pick numbers out of the air so it’s hard to give you a meaningful guide. A local removal requiring our 7.5T removal lorry rarely costs less than £1090. Dismantling/Reassembly of furniture and packing are extra. Obviously long distance removals cost more. Smaller removals which only require a 3.5T luton van can be much less.

How can I save money on my removal?

Most of our removal quotations are itemised into three parts:- A. Main removal (supply vehicles & men), B. Dismantling/reassembly of furniture & C. Packing small items into boxes. Many people reduce removal costs by packing (B.) & dismantling (C.) themselves. Also, if you’re moving locally, in Maidstone, you can save money by taking advantage of our box buyback offer.

The most obvious way of reducing your main removal cost is to declutter. Go to your loft, go to your shed and go to the back of your cupboards and ask yourself:- “do I want to pay a removal company to move this?”

If you’re downsizing you reduce your removal quotation by being decisive about what’s not part of your removal. It’s hard to visualise your new home and decide what furniture isn’t going to fit, we get that. However, obviously, you save on removal costs when you exclude unwanted furniture.

Are you fully insured?

We carry the correct insurances for household removals - when we pick something up in your home it is covered by our goods in transit insurance. Having said that insurance is limited by smallprint, it’s just a fact of life, and what’s in the smallprint might not be your idea of “Fully Insured”.

As an example if we pick a television up in a bedroom and fall down the stairs and smash it:- goods in transit insurance covers damage to the television, public liability insurance covers damage to the stairs and employers liability insurance covers damage to the men who fell down the stairs. However if we don’t smash it and it arrives at your new home undamaged, but it doesn’t work any more, that’s not insured.

Another example would be a broken plate - this would be covered by our goods in transit insurance. However if this plate happened to be part of a matching dinner service which is no longer available - the devaluation of the remaining set is not covered.

When should I get a removals quotation?

As soon as possible! Once you have a firm quote you can budget for the cost. Don’t worry if your house is in disarray, we’re visiting you to evaluate the size and difficulty of your removal. Some customers run the hoover around before we arrive but this really isn’t necessary, we’re only interested in assessing your removal.

Occasionally we meet people whose house sale (or purchase) creeps up on them so they have to respond hastily and arrange a moving date at short notice. In that case you would want a removal company already organised. We hold the price of our quotations even if a long time elapses so don’t worry if our quote is six months old when you finally move.

Do you require a booking deposit?

We take a 50% deposit on booking, this deposit secures your moving date, when we’ve received your deposit we will then tell other customers we’re booked on that date, because we're committed to you.

On one hand it’s best to secure your booking date as early as possible so you can be assured of our service and make plans. On the other hand you shouldn’t book a date with us until you’re absolutely sure that the date is fixed. If you’re buying & selling property that would be on exchange of contracts.

When you’re trying to line dates up please phone us (during office hours) because we can “pencil you in”. This will let you know our availability. When you’re “pencilled in” no deposit is required as it’s not a reservation. We’ll have as many conversations as you like about changing the date and if we become booked on that date we’ll let you know immediately.

What happens on moving day?
(I’ve never used a removals company before)

We vary our “moveplan” to suit the particular circumstances of your removal. If you want us to pack this is usually done the day before moving day. The objective on packing day is to get as many small items into sealed, stackable boxes as possible.

On moving day we plan to arrive after your neighbours have gone to work, park as close to your house as possible and get to work! Please let us know if you want us to put carpet protector down.

Our method blends the imperatives of caring for your belongings, making use of loading space and making progress. We don’t make absolute promises about timing, our job is to work steadily and look after your stuff. Often we will try to load bedrooms before downstairs and also the garden last.

We usually have half an hour for lunch on the way to your new house and meet you there, hopefully with keys! Unloading is often quicker than loading, it’s helpful if boxes have their destination room marked on top. It’s also helpful if you’re around to direct us to the correct room with your furniture.

Should larger and long distance removals take more than a day we’ll confirm the moveplan as you book. In any case we’ll keep in touch to let you know our progress.

When we’ve finished unloading make sure that all large items are where you want them before we go. Also please take the trouble to check the removal lorry as we tidy up - reassure yourself that we’ve delivered everything.

What about my flatscreen TV?
(I’ve lost the box)

A flatscreen TV is a fragile item which should be transported in a box. It’s quite common for the original box to be thrown away because it’s so big. We have a selection of wooden crates for flatscreen tv’s on our removal vans. The largest or which is 180cm by 110cm by 40cm. This is easily large enough for a modern 70” TV.

We use transit blankets to pad out your flatscreen in our box. Also the box might be used to protect your mirrors and pictures.

How would you protect my sofa?

We have a set of purpose made furniture covers from Ecopac. These are a heavy duty nylon material with padding and integrated rip-stop carrying handles. With sizes from 4 seater sofas down to armchairs we’re able to protect furniture even as it’s carried down staircases. Not only will your sofa be protected from dirt & dust but also from scuffs and scrapes as it’s carried in & out of your home.

Also we put mattresses in bags and drape square furniture with transit blankets to make sure that they travel safely in our removal lorry.

How do you move hanging clothes?

We keep hanging wardrobe boxes on our removal vans. These are made from a durable “correx” plastic material and provide 18 inches (45cm) of hanging rail. These are available to you at no extra cost for moving day, however you do need a rail at your new home to quickly unload our boxes and give them back.

Please ask about hanging wardrobe boxes as you qet your removals quotation so that we can allocate the right quantity for you.

What things can’t you take?

There’s plenty of different things which are prohibited from household removals for insurance purposes. This is usually because of the risk that they might damage other items but sometimes because they might be damaged themselves. Many of these items are rarely included in a household removal and excluding them seems like common sense.

Most often items which could cause trouble when they tip or spill should be excluded. As a small removals company we might vary our policy to suit your needs but we can’t insure items damaged by spills. Paint is the most dangerous in this category but also motor oil, fuel, screenwash, cleaning products and cooking oil.

Explosive items including gas bottles, aerosols, fireworks, firearms & ammunition are strictly excluded.

Things which are fixed are excluded unless we specially agree to unscrew them. We often move potted plants of all shapes and sizes but these are not covered by insurance.

Maidstone Relocation Guide

Moving to Maidstone? Here’s a guide that’ll get you situated in the local area! Maidstone combines rural charm with modernity; a rich history, new developments and everything you could want from the county town of Kent. Maidstone is the largest town in Kent and there is evidence of settlement in the area dating back to before the Stone Age!
