How much does it cost to hire a removal company?
This year (2021) we’ve carried out removals for customers who have paid us between £250 and £3500. It’s impossible to know how much your removal will cost without a formal quotation based on a survey. However most families who move locally pay less than £1000 to move house. Obviously packing services and furniture dismantling increase costs.
What will movers not take?
We don’t like to move paint. It’s not possible to insure anything which is damaged when paint gets spilt, regardless of the circumstances. Similarly anything (foodstuffs, toiletries, cleaning fluids, oil, chemicals) which might get spilt cannot be included unless it’s in a sturdy plastic box with a sealed lid and also marked “do not tip over”. We can’t take ammunition, explosives, fireworks, livestock, anything which requires a controlled environment and of course, stolen goods.
Do you dismantle furniture?
Yes of course, and don’t worry, we reassemble it too! We charge to dismantle beds (except divans), wardrobes, cots, shelving units, also sometimes desks, sofas and garden furniture. We usually don’t charge to take feet off sofas or leg off dining tables. Corner sofa’s usually just unhook and reclining sofas usually have backs which unclip so we don’t charge for this. Some sofas are designed so that the arms unbolt, if this is required we do charge for this. If you’re worried about dismantling please ask and we’ll be happy to discuss on an item by item basis.
When should I contact a removal company?
As soon as possible! A professional local removals company will be happy to provide a formal quotation based on a home survey. Especially if you’re buying & selling houses there is a possibility your removal date being hidden by a thicket of conveyancing delays. Don’t be caught out with the obligation to commit to a date without a removal company lined up!
How shall I pack my flatscreen TV, I’ve lost the box?
We will lend you a suitable wooden crate which is on our removal lorry permanently. This will accommodate a 50” flatscreen, we do have larger crates so if you have a huge flatscreen please point this out. When we survey your house to provide a removal quotation we will note the size and number of flatscreens which we need to accommodate.
We have Public Liability Insurance, Goods in Transit & Storage Insurance, Employers Liability Insurance and of course Road Traffic Act Insurance for our removal lorries. Insurance comes with smallprint, it’s a fact of life. So our insurance is limited by our terms & conditions which originate from our insurers. We don’t like to boast that we are fully insured but we do carry all the insurances required for a removals company.
